Let’s be honest, this can be a struggle for everyone, especially for those of us that are on the road doing the sales thing. Being on the road you will usually find yourself in the car or with customers, so responding to leads or customer requests in a timely manner can be a challenge.
Just yesterday I was on a job site with a customer for an hour and a half when I received a voice mail from a customer. By the time I had listened, he had already called the office, perhaps making me look unresponsive.
The lesson? I have found an app on my iPhone I can turn on to send automatic texts as a reply to incoming calls when I am busy. I am fortunate that he called my office instead of a competitor. When a customer calls me while I am on the road, I am honest and tell them that it will usually be after 5 when I get to their question, need, quote, etc. They appreciate the honesty and quick communication, knowing there is a next step. Be sure to add that to your Action Items on your calendar!
I have had more than one customer tell me that the reason they did not go elsewhere was because I responded to their need quickly.
Many business owners are so busy working in their business they do not make the time to work on their business. In Sales, that is our business, let’s take steps so we do not get hung up working in your business that you miss the chance to work ON your business.
